Vae Hamilton likes working in layers. Like our lives, Vae’s paintings are about layers upon layers of information, events, people, and feelings, filtered through the artists perspective. They are recordings of various moments in time that the artist considered to be memorable. Vae works with acrylic paints, photo transfers, multimedia, and expanding creative imagery.

Vae Hamilton has worked and played in the art field all her life. She studied at Western Illinois University, the University of Colorado and The University of Kansas. Her independent study includes work with Katherine Chang Liu, Wolf Kahn, Carrie Brown, Ernesto Velardi, Carol Barnes and Fran Larsen, She has attended the prestigious Springmaid Mills Watermedia workshops for 15 years.

She is featured in Gerald Brommer’s book, “Collage Techniques” as well as creating the cover art for “Branches, Volume 10”, receiving the 2001 “Editors Choice Award”. Her paintings have appeared on the cover of “Art of Wellbeing” Magazine, fall 2002. She placed and was published in the National Ohio Grand Exhibition 2000. Hamilton is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society and the Society of Layerists in Multimedia.

Some of Hamiltons shows include Georgetown Rice Museum, Lenoir-Rhyne College, 1998 and 2002, Valdese Rock School, Caldwell Arts Council, Western Illinois University, Mooresville Arts Council, Newton-Conover Civic and Performance Place, Charlotte Art League and many more private and public showings. Vae has traveled, been inspired by and shown her work worldwide: Europe extensively, Argentina and Brazil, South America, Africa, Thailand, Beijing, China, Australia. The contemporary direction of Eastern calligraphy in China, Korea and Japan emphasizes free flowing creative Lines more than dwelling on the traditional ideograms of Chinese, Korean or Japanese characters. Some of contemporary calligraphic works in these countries are outstanding in their innovative and creative fluidity and vitality.
